Winners are chosen, important information about this blog, and Applebee's nurse-in info

First of all I'd like to announce the five winners of the Breast Milk Baby Doll! These winners were chosen at random (random meaning my five year old scrolled up and down while my three year old pointed to the screen five times). I have informed the manufacturer of the winners and you will be contacted via e-mail soon to tell them where to ship your doll to.

Over 800 people entered; five lucky winners were chosen! Congratulations:

Important info about this blog

Now I'd like to take this opportunity to discuss the intention of this blog and the accompanying facebook page. "If breastfeeding offends you, put a blanket over YOUR head!" is a blog that hopes to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and to normalize the sight of breastfeeding whether it be in public or where ever the baby needs to eat.

There are about 270,000 followers of the facebook page and as a result there are different people from different walks of life with different viewpoints and different ideas about what my page should do. So to clear up any confusion here is what you can expect and what you will see should you choose to continue reading this blog/FB page.

1. Interesting and important updates in the world of breastfeeding. These may be news articles, videos, info about upcoming nurse-ins, and much more.

2. Relevant product giveaways. Because of the large size of our facebook page, many mom and baby product manufacturers and small time work at home moms offer to giveaway a few of their products on my page. It brings publicity and awareness to their product and you guys get free stuff. Everyone wins! If you don't want to see our posts but still want to support the page, there IS an option to hide the page from your news feed so you don't see updates. So far, out of 270,000 people only one has messaged me with a complaint but I am sure there are more people out there who aren't interested. If you have a breastfeeding or baby related product and you'd like to give one (or more) away to my readers, feel free to contact me via private message on the facebook page.

3. Breastfeeding and baby related questions. Lots of people post their questions and concerns on the wall and receive helpful answers. With such a large and supportive community its a great place to ask questions! Feel free to send me a private message and I can repost your question anonymously for you. Feel free to answer any questions or requests for advice that you see on the page. That's what makes us a helpful and supportive community.

I'd like to thank everyone for continuing to be supportive of our group after over two years! Let's continue being one of the best breastfeeding communities on facebook.

Applebee's Nurse-In!

Learn more about the upcoming Applebee's nurse-in here!

Follow the link above to find your local Applebee's nurse-in location.  The Nationwide Applebee’s Nurse-in starts at 1:00pm your local time on 9/29/2012 and lasts until 3:00 pm.

"What is the cause of this nurse-in? Dawn Holland was sitting in a booth in the back of a nearly empty Applebee’s in Covington, Georgia last week around 2 o’clock in the middle of the afternoon when she had the cops called on her for merely breastfeeding her child, despite being within her legal rights to do so. Why were the cops called? Because the manager wanted her to get up and move herself and her child to their unsanitary bathroom to breastfeed or leave. Dawn refused to be shamed and breastfeed her child where people defecate.

In an act of solidarity with Dawn, supporters are hoping to help spread awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and our basic human right choose when and where we nourish our children. In no situation where a mother is merely peacefully nourishing her child in public, whether it be from breast or bottle, should the police be called on her."

New breastfeeding friendly products available!

I get messages on a daily basis asking if my shop offers nursing tops. Unfortunately, that is not an option with the company that I print through. Sorry!

However, I've done my best to add new products that ARE breastfeeding-friendly. Check them out!

Tank and cami tops

A lot of people like to wear a tank or cami style top underneath a button down blouse or a regular shirt. You can either unbutton or simply pull up the top shirt and pop your breast out of the top of the tank/cami. That way very little skin is exposed but the breast is still easy to get to. With these tops the "If breastfeeding offends you..." logo will be visible when you are nursing!

Breastfeeding Baby Blanket

This is my new favorite product! Now when you tell someone "If breastfeeding offends you, put a blanket over YOUR head" you can show you mean it by giving them a blanket that says so! This is actually pretty practical to keep in the diaper bag. While it should in NO way be a requirement to cover up, some women are more comfortable using a blanket while nursing so this is the perfect cover. I personally liked to have a blanket, not to cover my breast or my baby's head, but to cover my tummy when nursing and I would have loved to have this then.

The computer generated preview picture looks a little funky, but rest assured it looks nice in real life. Its available in pretty shades of baby blue and pink.

Diaper Cover

This is another item perfect for keeping nosy people at bay. With the logo visible across baby's bum while you are nursing it tells crazy people to look the other way and don't even think about harassing this mom and baby!

Back design hoodies

These hoodies have been available for a while now but a lot of people don't realize they exist until I tell them. They've been our most popular "useful for when you are actually nursing" product until the new items were added. There are several different styles and colors besides the one in the picture above. These hoodies unzip in the front and have a logo on the back so you can wear them unzipped while nursing, say perhaps on a park bench, and people approaching you can clearly see the logo. I have been wearing one myself for two years and I still get compliments on it!

So once again, to everyone who has asked, I'm sorry I can't offer actual nursing tanks. Right now this is the best that I can do. I hope it will work for you! As always, you can view all of our products including shirts, baby gear, bags, totes, bumperstickers, and much more available here!

Enter to win a FREE Breast Milk Baby Doll!

Be one of FIVE winners of The Breast Milk Baby Doll!

I am so excited to announce this giveaway! Five lucky winners will receive a free Breast Milk Baby Doll. For the rest of you, I also have a special coupon code for $30 off the purchase of the doll!

The Breast Milk Baby doll lets young girls imitate mothers in a natural, caring way. In addition to nurturing skills like changing, bathing, swaddling, singing, rocking to sleep, and cuddling a healthy baby, the Breast Milk Baby doll is designed to help children learn about one of the most natural ways to care for a baby.

The doll simulates the breast-feeding process by including a fashionable halter-top that a young girl can put on like a vest and when she brings the Breast Milk Baby doll’s mouth up to the pretty flower decoration on the vest the doll makes a soft, suckling sound. The two flowers on the halter are positioned where the nipples would be and when the mouth of the doll is brought close to the embedded sensors in the flower, the baby makes motions and suckling sounds. After the feeding motion the doll makes crying sounds to be burped and swaddled.
